Yamaha PSR-E353 Review - Is this piano any good?

Today we’ll be giving you a detailed review of the Yamaha PSR-E353.

If you know pianos, you know Yamaha. Their products are excellent, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that the PSR-E353 is.

You should never buy a piano without the right information, and we’ll tell all you need to know about this piano in the review.

With that in mind, let’s read on…

Important Features

Let’s look at some important features that will help make your decision simpler.

Affordable

One of the first things that you will notice about this keyboard is that it’s very affordable. In fact, its price that is about as low as you can go when buying a keyboard.

Of course, when buying a budget instrument, you do forgo some premium features. However, there is still plenty to like here.

If you are looking for an affordable product that performs well, this is something to consider.

Yamaha PSR-E353

Touch Sensitive Keys

Touch sensitivity is a standard component of most premium keyboards. However, you don’t always see it in products of this price range.

If you don’t know what touch-sensitivity means, it’s pretty straightforward.

It simply means that when you play hard, you hear a loud note. When you play softly, you hear a soft note.

This sounds like quite basic, and it is. After all, acoustic pianos are naturally built this way. Still, it is a necessary feature that you don’t always see, which is a big plus.

YES

Yamaha Educational Suite is a feature that the company includes on some of their pianos. YES is a simple onboard program that provides basic instruction to beginners.

This couldn’t possibly replace the mentorship of an instructor. However, it’s going to be a helpful secondary resource.

Yamaha PSR-E353

YES can help you to learn tempo and improve the accuracy of your playing.

Essentially, it is just going to make your practice sessions a little bit more productive, which makes it an excellent feature.

Connects With Your iPhone

Doesn’t everything these days? Bluetooth phone connectivity is a pretty standard feature on anything from toothbrushes to toasters.

The feature can seem almost ridiculous at times, but in the case of a keyboard, it’s actually quite handy.

Essentially, it allows you to adjust the settings of your piano from your phone.

But, if you don’t have a smartphone, it won’t be a problem. You can still do everything that the keyboard is capable of using its onboard controls.

An iPhone simply makes the features of the keyboard a little bit easier to use.

Easy To Transport

Next up, this piano is also very easy to move around. The weight and dimensions making it extremely portable

At only ten pounds, you shouldn’t have any trouble carrying it anywhere.

Issues

One of the most significant issues with this keyboard is the fact that it’s so basic. You, unfortunately, do get exactly what you pay for.

For one thing, you only get sixty-one keys. This is opposed to the eighty-eight keys that you get with a standard full-sized keyboard.

If you are only just starting out on the piano, this isn’t going to be a problem. For the first year or so of your playing, you may not even use most of the keys available. However, eventually, you will need them, and they won’t be there.

Therefore, as you get better at playing the piano, you will need to invest in a more advanced keyboard.

Yamaha PSRE353 61-Key Portable Keyboard

There is also the fact that the keys are not weighted. This means that they will not provide any resistance when you press down on them.

Weighted keys are a standard feature of higher-end keyboards. However, given the price of this unit, it isn’t surprising that they are not included.

It’s not necessarily that the Yamaha PSR is doing anything wrong.

This is a simple keyboard that comes with very basic features. If you want to get more out of your purchase, you will need to spend more money.

Pros And Cons

We’ve seen what the product does right, and what it isn’t so good at. Now it is time to decide if the pros outweigh the cons. To help make that easier for you, we have assembled a list of the Yamaha PSR-E35s’s strengths and weaknesses.

Read on…

Pros Of Yamaha PSR-E353

  • Affordable.
  • Touch Sensitive keys.
  • IOS Compatible.

Cons Of Yamaha PSR-E353

  • Only 61 keys.
  • Keys are not weighted.

Conclusion

It’s pretty clear that this piano has its flaws. Every instrument does.

However, there is still plenty to like. The price alone is going to make it a compelling option for many people.

For the money, you also get plenty of useful features that you don’t often find on budget-friendly products.

Of course, we can’t forget the fact that this is a very basic keyboard. If you are looking for lots of premium features, you will need to pay for them.

However, only you can decide if this product is right for you. We hope that our review simplified the decision.
