Piano Reviews: Yamaha MOXF8 Reviews

Today we dive deep into our Yamaha MOXF8 review. If you know pianos, or instruments at all really, you are certainly aware of Yamaha. They make high-quality stuff consistently.

While good products are definitely their norm, that doesn’t mean that they don’t produce the occasional dud.

Which category does the Yamaha MOXF8 fall into? This is the question that we have set out to answer today.

In order to enlighten you, the reader, we have studied this instrument very closely.

In the process, we learned about what Yamaha got right, and what the instrument company juggernaut got wrong.

Our findings have been assembled below.

Important Features

Time to inform your buying decision by taking a look at the MOXF8’s most important features.

Easy To Transport

This is the sort of piano that sh0uld have traveling musicians salivating. The low weight and relatively compact dimensions make for a keyboard that is easy to take on the go. And trust us, you are going to want to gig with this keyboard.

The sound quality, which we will elaborate on later, is made for the stage.

We should, however, note that if you do travel with this board, you will want to be careful. We have heard reports that the unit is a little bit on the fragile side. While it will hold up to regular playing without issue, it might not handle shock well.

A good, sturdy case and basic precautionary practices should do the trick. Given the price tag of this keyboard, you probably aren’t likely to want to be rough with it anyway.

Sound Engine

Yamaha is also known for making great sound engines. The Motif engine that you get here is definitely going to reinforce that reputation. You get 136 different voices with this unit (including many different piano tones).

The preset tone itself is a blend of two different grand pianos.

Most keyboards can’t quite nail the grand piano sound. And while this unit may not be able to replace a concert quality piano, it does come pretty close.

The sound you get here is really incredible. If you demand the very best out of your instrument, this piano is going to be a true no-brainer.

A True Workstation

If you make music this is going to be a dream for you. The piano features a generous onboard workstation that includes everything that you need to record and alter your music.

The MOXF8 truly does maximize your options for creative control. You can combine up to four different tones, record thirty-two tracks, and hook up a microphone and mixer. The attachments will provide even more possibilities!

The piano also features 256 preset performances that you can layer over your own work.

The options are seemingly endless here. The only limits here are that of your own imagination.

Potential buyers will also be pleased to note that the keyboard is computer capable. This means that with just a USB cord you can import all of your recordings to your computer with ease.

One of the first problems that most buyers will bump up against immediately, is the price. Though not the most expensive keyboard you will ever find, there is no denying that this unit is expensive.

You do get what you pay for though. The fact is that with electric pianos, you need to be willing to pay top dollar for good features. The Yamaha MOXF8 is not an exception to this rule.

We also noticed that the keyboard comes with an interface that is a little bit challenging to use.

There are lots of controls and options, which may leave beginners frustrated and confused. That said, this keyboard was also never meant for beginner use.

The interface definitely serves to reinforce this.

Now, granted, the interface is not so challenging to use that it should be a deal breaker. If you are an experienced musician, you should be able to overcome the learning curve in a short time.

The keys may also be a little bit fragile. Though we did not have any trouble with them ourselves, some of the longtime owners that we heard from did report problems.

Granted, when getting info from a secondary source, it is hard to account for the variables that may have been in play.

As far as we are concerned, there is no reason to expect to have problems with the keys.

These things aside, there is really nothing to report in terms of issues. This is a great keyboard that will serve the needs of experienced players very well.

So, yay, or nay? There is certainly no denying the fact that this keyboard is very feature rich. If you are serious about making music that can be shared with the world, this will be a good setup.

Still. It is pretty pricey. The bottom line is that this piano has a very specific target demographic. If you are experienced on the keyboard, and are looking for something that will be well equipped to handle, and even document your talent, this is a great option.

On the other hand, if you are newer to the instrument, this is definitely going to feature more than you need.

This in mind, we hope that you will find it easy to make an informed buying decision.
